Focused on discovery and development of novel bioinsecticides.
PepKnot is a consortium of scientists devoted to the development of novel sustainable pesticides. The basis for this work is the discovery of a new family of peptide toxins in marine worms, that is ribbon worms. These peptide toxins are extremely potent against insects and arthropod pests. Potency is indeed striking: 1 gram of toxin is enough to kill 1 billion cockroaches.
With these peptides, the so-called nemertides, in our toolbox, we are on our way to develop the next generation of green biopesticides.
