The PepKnot project originates from a collaboration between researchers at three Swedish Universities: Uppsala University, The Swedish Agricultural University, and Linnaeus University, focusing on the toxic effects of marine ribbon worms. Toxicity was shown to originate from peptides found in the animals' epithelial mucus. These peptides were of a type not previously known, and their toxicity towards arthropods was shown to be spectacular: 1 gram of peptide is enough to kill 1 billion cockroaches by injection.

We are now exploring the opportunities to use these peptides as a bioinsecticide, primarily against pests in greenhouse and domestic environments.
